As they continued their journey, Jesus came to a village, where a woman named Martha welcomed him to her house.

And they began to accuse him: "This is a man whom we found misleading our people, preventing them from paying taxes to the Emperor, and giving out that he himself is 'Christ, a King.'"

This made Pilate anxious to release him; but the Jews shouted: "If you release that man, you are no friend of the Emperor! Any one who makes himself out to be a King is setting himself against the Emperor!"

"They are Jews, and they are teaching customs which it is not right for us, as Romans, to sanction or adopt."

But the Jews, becoming jealous, engaged some worthless fellows from the streets, and, getting a mob together, kept the city in an uproar. They attacked Jason's house, with the intention of bringing Paul and Silas before the Popular Assembly;

On hearing this, the people and the City Magistrates were much concerned;

Was not it the same with the prostitute, Rahab? Was not it as the result of her actions that she was pronounced righteous, after she had welcomed the messengers and hastened them away by a different road?

For God's will is this--that you should silence the ignorance of foolish people by doing what is right.
