I need hardly say that no one among you must suffer as a murderer, or a thief, or a criminal, or for interfering in matters which do not concern Christians.

Blessed are you when people taunt you, and persecute you, and say everything evil about you--untruly, and on my account.

Make it your ambition to live quietly, and to attend to your own business, and to work with your hands, as we directed you;

We hear that there are among you people who are living ill- ordered lives, and who, instead of attending to their own business, are mere busy-bodies.

And not only that, but they learn to be idle as they go about from house to house. Nor are they merely idle, but they also become gossips and busy-bodies, and talk of what they ought not.

in the service of which I am suffering hardships, even to being put in fetters as a criminal. But the Message of God is not fettered;

Even if you should suffer for righteousness, count yourselves blessed! 'Do not let men terrify you, or allow yourselves to be dismayed.'

It is better that you should suffer, if that should be God's will, for doing right, than for doing wrong.
