By the seed which was sown among the brambles is meant the man who hears the Message, but the cares of life and the glamour of wealth completely choke the Message, so that it gives no return.

but wicked people and impostors will go from bad to worse, deceiving others and deceived themselves.

There was, you remember, a time when we ourselves were foolish, disobedient, misled, slaves to all kinds of passions and vices, living in a spirit of malice and envy, detested ourselves and hating one another.

Put that Message into practice, and do not merely listen to it--deceiving yourselves.

When a man appears to be religious, yet does not bridle his tongue, but imposes upon his own conscience, that man's religious observances are valueless.

If we say that there is no sin in us, we are deceiving ourselves, and the Truth has no place in us.
