But the wise ones replied, ‘No, there won’t be enough for us and for you. Instead, go to those who sell, and buy some for yourselves.’

You know that you were redeemed from the futile way of life handed down from your ancestors—not with perishable things such as silver or gold,

A rich person’s wealth is a strong city or like a high wall—in his imagination.

Thus says Adonai: “Let not the wise boast in his wisdom nor the mighty boast in his might nor the rich glory in his riches.

Now Ephraim has said: “How rich I have become! I found wealth by myself. I won’t be guilty of any sin with any of my property.”

For what could a man give in exchange for his soul?
