Through your servants, you have blasphemed my Lord and said: ‘With my many chariots I have climbed to the heights of the mountains, to the remotest parts of Lebanon! I cut down its tall cedars and choice cypress trees. I have gone to its farthest lodge, its thickest forest.

Then Asa cried to Adonai his God and said, “Adonai, there is no one like You to help in battle between the mighty and the powerless. Help us, Adonai Eloheinu, for we rely on You and in Your Name we have come against this multitude. You are Adonai Eloheinu! Let no man prevail against You.”

So Adonai struck down the Cushites before Asa and before Judah. The Cushites fled

For I was ashamed to ask the king for soldiers and cavalry to protect us from the enemy along the way, because we had spoken to the king saying, “The gracious hand of our God is upon everyone who seeks Him, but His great anger is against everyone who forsakes Him.”

Our help is in the Name of Adonai, Maker of heaven and earth.

A Song of Ascents. Those who trust in Adonai are like Mount Zion— it cannot be moved, but endures forever.

No king is saved by his great army, no warrior is delivered by great strength.

A horse is a false hope for victory, nor can its great strength save.

A horse is prepared for the day of battle, but victory comes from Adonai.

‘Assyria will not save us. We will not ride on horses, and we will never again say, “Our god,” to the work of our hands, for with You, orphans find mercy.’”

Do not rejoice over me, O my enemy. Though I have fallen—I will arise. Though I sit in darkness, Adonai is my light.

So they came out, they and all their armies with them, a multitude with as many people as the sand on the seashore, with very many horses and chariots.

So let all Your enemies perish, Adonai! But may those who love Him be like the rising of the sun in its might.” Then the land had peace for 40 years.

Then David said to the Philistine, “You are coming to me with a sword, a spear and a javelin, but I am coming to you in the Name of Adonai-Tzva’ot, God of the armies of Israel, whom you have defied.
