Say to wisdom, “You are my sister,” and call understanding your relative.

if I say to the pit, ‘You are my father,’ and to the worm, ‘My mother,’ or ‘My sister,’

Bind them on your fingers, write them on the tablet of your heart.

They will keep you from a seducing woman, from the foreign woman with her seductive speech.

O, that you were like a brother to me, who nursed at my mother’s breasts. If I found you outside, I would kiss you, and no one would despise me.
