The one who oppresses the poor shows contempt for his Maker, but whoever is kind to the needy honors Him.

They say: “With our tongue we’ll prevail. We own our lips—who can master us?”

Whoever despises his neighbor sins, but whoever is gracious to the needy is blessed.

Whoever mocks the poor insults his Maker. Whoever rejoices at calamity will not go unpunished.

One who is kind to the poor lends to Adonai, and Adonai will reward him for his good deed.

Rich and poor have this in common— Adonai is the Maker of them all.

You are not to cheat one another, but fear your God, for I am Adonai your God.

“If your brother has become poor and his hand cannot support himself among you, then you are to uphold him. He may live with you like an outsider or a temporary resident.

You will always have the poor among you, but you will not always have Me.”

“You are not to oppress a hired servant who is poor and needy, whether he is from your brothers or the outsiders in your land within your town gates.

And this commandment we have from Him: that the one who loves God should also love his brother.
