We also assume responsibility for the mitzvot to give a third of a shekel each year for the work of the House of our God:
“The House that I am about to build will be great, because our God is greater than all the gods.
Indeed, every kohen stands day by day serving and offering the same sacrifices again and again, which can never take away sins.
Therefore, do not let anyone pass judgment on you in matters of food or drink, or in respect to a festival or new moon or Shabbat.
You are to take the atonement money from Bnei-Yisrael and give it for the service of the Tent of Meeting, so that it may be a memorial for Bnei-Yisrael before Adonai, to make atonement for your souls.”
