Thus says Adonai: “Restrain your voice from weeping and your eyes from tears. For your work will be rewarded” —it is declaration of Adonai— “when they will return from the land of the enemy.

Rather each will die for his own iniquity: if anyone eats the sour grapes, his own teeth will be blunted.”

You will bear your wickedness and your abominations.” It is a declaration of Adonai.

“What do you mean by using this proverb in the land of Israel saying, ‘The fathers have eaten sour grapes, so the children’s teeth are set on edge?’

“Your fathers, where are they? And the prophets, do they live forever?

‘Adonai is slow to anger and abundant in lovingkindness, forgiving iniquity and transgression. Still, He does not leave the guilty unpunished, bringing the iniquity of the fathers upon the children to the third and fourth generations.’
