Nothing remains for him to devour; therefore his prosperity will not last.
As a partridge that broods over young that she did not lay, so is one who gets wealth, unjustly. In the middle of his days it will abandon him, so at his end he will be a fool.
He has no offspring or descendant among his people, no survivor where he once dwelt.
He will not become rich, and his wealth will not endure, nor will his possessions spread over the land.
Terrifying sounds are in his ears; in a time of peace, marauders attack him.
Woe to those who join house to house and merge field to field, until there is no room, and you will live alone in the midst of the land!
In my ears, Adonai-Tzva’ot has said: “Surely many houses will be desolate— even grand and fine ones— with no occupants.”
They do not know how to be honest, —declares Adonai— those who are saving up violence and destruction in their citadels.
Therefore thus says my Lord Adonai: “An adversary will surround the land! He will bring down your strength. Your citadels will be plundered
