If only you would keep completely silent! For you, that would be wisdom.
Will your idle talk silence men and will no one rebuke you when you mock?
Be silent and let me speak; then let come to me what may.
Hear now my argument; listen to the contentions of my lips.
Is there no end to your futile words? What compels you to answer?
“How long until you end these words? Consider, and then we will talk.
“How long will you torment my soul and crush me with words?
Look at me and be appalled; put your hand over your mouth.
So these three men stopped answering Job, because he was righteous in his own eyes.
Must I wait, since they no longer speak since they stand there with no reply?
Even a fool, who keeps quiet, is considered wise, discerning, if he seals his lips.
When you swear a vow to God, don’t delay in fulfilling it. For He takes no delight in fools. Pay what you vow!
Therefore the prudent keep silent at such a time —for it is a distressful time.
Know this, my dear brothers and sisters: let every person be quick to listen, slow to speak, and slow to anger—
