But if any harm follows, then you are to penalize life for life,

If anyone injures his neighbor, as he has done, the same is to be done to him:

fracture for fracture, eye for eye, tooth for tooth. Just as he has injured someone, so it shall it be done to him.

“You are not to accept ransom for the life of a murderer. He deserves to die and he is to die.

Your eye must not show pity—life for life, eye for eye, tooth for tooth, hand for hand, foot for foot.
