He reported to us how he had seen an angel standing in his house and saying, ‘Send to Joppa and bring Simon called Peter.

The hand of the Lord was with them, and a great number who believed turned to the Lord.

“I was in the city of Joppa praying, and in a trance I saw a vision—something like a great sheet coming down, being lowered from heaven by its four corners, and it came right to me.

All who lived in Lydda and the Plain of Sharon saw him, and they turned to the Lord.

In Joppa, there was a disciple named Tabitha (which translates as Dorcas). She was full of mitzvot and tzadakah, which she continually did.

Since Lydda was near Joppa, the disciples—hearing that Peter was there—sent two men to him, begging him, “Please come to us without delay!”

So it happened that Peter stayed on in Joppa for several days with Simon, a tanner.
