When the sun set and it became dark, behold, there was a smoking oven and a fiery torch that passed between these pieces.

Then the fire of Adonai fell and consumed the burnt offering—and the wood, the stones and the dust—and licked up the water that was in the trench.

Suddenly there came from heaven a sound like a mighty rushing wind, and it filled the whole house where they were sitting.

“So be very watchful over your souls since you saw no form on the day that Adonai spoke to you in Horeb out of the midst of the fire,

Has a people ever heard the voice of God speaking from the midst of the fire, as you have heard—and lived?

For our God is a consuming fire.
