Now at the feast the governor was accustomed to release one prisoner for the crowd, whomever they wanted.
But they said, “Not during the feast, lest there be a riot among the people.”
At that time they had a notorious prisoner named Barabbas.
Therefore I will have him flogged and then release him.”
Now each year at the feast Pilate was obligated to release one prisoner for the people.
So they all cried out together, “Away with this man, and release for us Barabbas!”
but Peter stood outside at the gate. So the other disciple, who was known to the high priest, went out, spoke to the gatekeeper, and brought Peter in.
Then Pilate handed Jesus over to them to be crucified. So they took Jesus and led him away.
But after two years had passed, Felix was succeeded by Porcius Festus. And wishing to gain favor with the Jews, Felix left Paul in prison.
But Festus, wishing to gain favor with the Jews, responded to Paul, “Are yoʋ willing to go up to Jerusalem and stand trial before me there on these charges?”
