They said, “Some say John the Baptist, others say Elijah, and others say that yoʋ are Jeremiah or one of the prophets.”
and said to his servants, “This is John the Baptist; he has been raised from the dead, and that is why these mighty powers are at work in him.”
He said to them, “But who do you say that I am?”
Then his disciples asked him, “Why do the scribes say that Elijah must come first?”
In those days John the Baptist came preaching in the wilderness of Judea,
Others said, “He is Elijah.” And others said, “He is a prophet, like one of the prophets.”
They answered, “Some say John the Baptist, others say Elijah, and others say that yoʋ are one of the prophets.”
others were saying that Elijah had appeared, and others were saying that one of the ancient prophets had risen.
So they asked him, “What then? Are yoʋ Elijah?” He said, “I am not.” “Are yoʋ the Prophet?” He answered, “No.”
And there was much murmuring about him among the crowds. Some were saying, “He is a good man.” Others were saying, “No, he is deceiving the crowd.”
So they said to the blind man again, “What do yoʋ say about him, since he opened yoʋr eyes?” The man said, “He is a prophet.”
