So all the generations from Abraham to David are fourteen generations, and from David to the Babylonian resettlement fourteen generations, and from the Babylonian resettlement to the Christ fourteen generations.

For Herod had arrested John, bound him, and put him in prison on account of Herodias, his brother Philip's wife.

Now when Jesus heard that John had been put in prison, he withdrew to Galilee.

Then the disciples of John came to Jesus and said, “Why do we and the Pharisees often fast, but yoʋr disciples do not fast?”

For Herod himself had sent men to arrest John and chain him in prison on account of Herodias, his brother Philip's wife, whom Herod had married.

But when John rebuked Herod the tetrarch because of his marriage to Herodias, his brother's wife, and because of all the evils that he had done,

Now Herod the tetrarch heard about everything that Jesus was doing, and he was greatly perplexed, because some were saying that John had been raised from the dead,

Now when the Lord learned that the Pharisees heard he was making and baptizing more disciples than John
