“I do not speak concerning all of you. I know whom I have chosen, but that the Scripture might be filled, ‘He who eats bread with Me has lifted up his heel against Me.’


And He answering, said, “He who has dipped his hand with Me in the dish, he shall deliver Me up.


For I heard many mocking, “Fear on every side!” “Expose,” they say, “yes, let us expose him!” All my friends watched for my stumbling, saying, “He might be lured away, so that we prevail against him, and take our revenge on him.”


All my intimate friends loathe me, and those whom I love have turned against me.


“All your allies shall send you forth to the border, your friends shall deceive you and overpower you. They make your bread a snare under you, without you discerning it!


Trust no friend, rely on no companion, guard the doors of your mouth from her who lies in your bosom.


Aḇshalom also sent for Aḥithophel the Gilonite, counsellor of Dawiḏ, from his city, from Giloh, while he slaughtered slaughterings. And it came to be that the conspiracy became potent, for the people with Aḇshalom kept increasing.


He has removed my brothers far away from me, and my friends are completely estranged from me.
