Obadiah 1:1

The Scriptures 2009

The vision of Oḇaḏyah: This is what the Master יהוה said concerning Eḏom. We have heard a report from יהוה, and a messenger has been sent among the nations, saying, “Arise, and let us rise up against her for battle!”

And Ěsaw said to Ya‛aqoḇ, “Please feed me with that same red stew, for I am weary.” That is why his name was called Eḏom.

So Ěsaw dwelt in Mount Sĕ‛ir. Ěsaw is Eḏom.

And this is the genealogy of Ěsaw the father of the Eḏomites in Mount Sĕ‛ir.

Remember, O יהוה, against the sons of Eḏom The day of Yerushalayim, Who said, “Lay it bare, lay it bare, To its foundation!”

The message concerning Dumah. He calls to me out of Sĕ‛ir, “Watchman, how much of the night is passed? Watchman, how much of the night has passed?”

The watchman said, “Morning came, and also the night. If you inquire, inquire. Come again!”

“For his princes were at Tso‛an, and his messengers came to Ḥanes.

I then took the cup from the hand of יהוה, and made all the nations drink, to whom יהוה had sent me,

Eḏom, and Mo’aḇ, and the children of Ammon;

“And lest your heart grow faint, and you fear the report heard in the land – for a report shall come one year, and after that, in another year a report shall come, and violence in the land, ruler against ruler –

And the word of יהוה came to me, saying,

“Mitsrayim shall become a ruin, and Eḏom a ruin, a wilderness, because of violence done to the people of Yehuḏah, whose innocent blood they shed in their land.

“The breach-maker shall go up before them. They shall break out, and pass through the gate, and go out by it, and their sovereign pass before them, with יהוה at their head!”

“And you shall begin to hear of fightings and reports of fightings. See that you are not troubled, for these have to take place, but the end is not yet.

“And when you hear of fightings and reports of fightings, do not be troubled – it has to take place, but the end is not yet.
