And Dawiḏ spoke to יהוה when he saw the messenger who was striking the people, and said, “See, I have sinned, and I have done perversely. But these sheep, what have they done? Let Your hand, I pray, be against me and against my father’s house.”

And Dawiḏ said to Elohim, “Was it not I who commanded the people to be numbered? I am the one who has sinned and done evil indeed. But these, the sheep, what have they done? Let Your hand, I pray, O יהוה my Elohim, be against me and my father’s house, but not against Your people, to be plagued.”

Your wrong is for a man like yourself, and your righteousness for a son of man.

Wisdom is better than weapons of conflict, but one sinner destroys much good.

And they said to him, “What are we to do to you to make the sea calm for us?” For the sea was growing more stormy.

However, the men rowed hard to bring the ship to land, but were unable, for the sea continued to grow more stormy against them.

neither do you consider that it is better for us that one man die for the people than that the entire nation should perish.”
