But stretch out Your hand, please, and strike all that he has – if he would not curse You to Your face!”
In all this Iyoḇ did not sin nor ascribe wrong-doing unto Elohim.
Then they sat down with him on the ground seven days and seven nights, and no one spoke a word to him, for they saw that the pain was very great.
“But stretch out Your hand, please, and strike his bone and his flesh – if he would not curse You to Your face!”
And Iyoḇ spoke, and said,
“Let the day perish on which I was born, and the night it was said, ‘A male child has been conceived.’
so Iyoḇ opens his mouth in vain, he increases words without knowledge.”
Because they embittered his spirit, And he spoke rashly with his lips.
Woe to me, my mother, that you have borne me, a man of strife and a man of contention to all the earth! I have neither lent for interest, nor have men lent to me for interest. All of them are reviling me.
