“Let Pharaoh do this, and let him appoint overseers over the land, to take up one-fifth of the land of Mitsrayim in the seven years of plenty.

“And now, let Pharaoh look for a discerning and wise man, and set him over the land of Mitsrayim.

“And let them gather all the food of those good years that are coming, and store up grain under the hand of Pharaoh, and let them keep food in the cities.

And it shall be that in the harvest you shall give one-fifth to Pharaoh. And four-fifths is your own, as seed for the field and for your food, for those of your households and as food for your little ones.

And Yosĕph made it a law over the land of Mitsrayim to this day, that Pharaoh should have one-fifth, except for the ground of the priests only, which did not become Pharaoh’s.

And the men did the work trustworthily. And over them were appointed Yaḥath and Oḇaḏyahu the Lĕwites, of the sons of Merari, and Zeḵaryah and Meshullam, of the sons of the Qehathites, to oversee; and of the Lĕwites, all of whom were skilled in instruments of song,

And Yo’ĕl son of Ziḵri was their overseer, and Yehuḏah son of Senuah was second over the city.

In scarcity of food He shall redeem you from death, and in battle from the power of the sword.

To deliver their being from death, And to keep them alive during scarcity of food.

A clever one foresees evil and hides himself, But the simple go on and are punished.

A clever man foresees calamity, hides himself; The simple shall go on, they are punished.

But Mosheh was wroth with the officers of the army, with the commanders of thousands and commanders of hundreds, who had come from the campaign.

“And calling every one of his master’s debtors to him, he said to the first, ‘How much do you owe my master?’
