And all his sons and all his daughters arose to comfort him, but he refused to be comforted, and he said, “Now let me go down into She’ol to my son in mourning.” So his father wept for him.

And Aḇraham breathed his last and died in a good old age, aged and satisfied, and was gathered to his people.

And Laḇan answered and said to Ya‛aqoḇ, “These daughters are my daughters, and these children are my children, and this flock is my flock, and all that you see is mine. But what shall I do today to these, my daughters or to their children whom they have borne?

So Yitsḥaq breathed his last and died, and was gathered to his people, aged and satisfied of days. And his sons Ěsaw and Ya‛aqoḇ buried him.

But we said to him, ‘We are trustworthy, we are not spies.

But he said, “My son is not going down with you, for his brother is dead, and he is left alone. If any harm should come to him along the way in which you go, then you would bring down my grey hair with sorrow to She’ol.”

And Yisra’ĕl said, “Enough! My son Yosĕph is still alive. Let me go and see him before I die.”

And Yisra’ĕl said to Yosĕph, “I had not thought to see your face. But see, Elohim has also shown me your seed!”

So the elders of his house stood up over him, to raise him up from the earth. But he would not, nor did he eat food with them.

“But now he is dead, why should I fast? Am I able to bring him back again? I am going to him, but he does not return to me.”

And it was reported to Yo’aḇ, “See, the sovereign is weeping and mourning for Aḇshalom.”

And Ephrayim their father mourned many days, and his brothers came to comfort him.

And three of the friends of Iyoḇ heard of all this evil that came on him, and each one came from his own place – Eliphaz the Tĕmanite, and Bildaḏ the Shuḥite, and Tsophar the Na‛amathite – and they met together to come to sympathise with him and to comfort him.

In the day of my distress I sought יהוה; My hand was stretched out in the night And it did not cease, My being refused to be comforted.

I remembered Elohim, and groaned; I complained, and my spirit grew faint. Selah.

All that your hand finds to do, do it with your might; for there is no work or planning or knowledge or wisdom in She’ol where you are going.

Thus said יהוה, “A voice was heard in Ramah, wailing, bitter weeping, Raḥĕl weeping for her children, refusing to be comforted for her children, because they are no more.”
