And it came to be, when Yisra’ĕl dwelt in that land, that Re’uḇĕn went and lay with Bilhah his father’s concubine. And Yisra’ĕl heard about it. Now the sons of Ya‛aqoḇ were twelve:

As for the sons of Re’uḇĕn the first-born of Yisra’ĕl – he was the first-born, but because he profaned his father’s bed, his birthright was given to the sons of Yosĕph, son of Yisra’ĕl, so that the genealogy is not listed according to the birthright,


‘The nakedness of your father’s wife you do not uncover, it is your father’s nakedness.


It is commonly reported that there is whoring among you, and such whoring as is not even named among the nations, so as one to have his father’s wife!


And Dawiḏ came to his house at Yerushalayim. And the sovereign took the ten women, his concubines whom he had left to look after the house, and put them in a protected house and supported them, but did not go in to them. So they were shut up to the day of their death, living in widowhood.


And the wall of the city had twelve foundations, and on them were the names of the twelve emissaries of the Lamb.


“And He gave him the covenant of circumcision. And so he brought forth Yitsḥaq and circumcised him on the eighth day. And Yitsḥaq brought forth Ya‛aqoḇ, and Ya‛aqoḇ brought forth the twelve ancestors.


And it came to be, as her life was going out – for she died – that she called his name Ben-Oni. But his father called him Binyamin.


And a man of the house of Lĕwi went and married a daughter of Lĕwi.


And the banner of the camp of the children of Yehuḏah departed first according to their divisions. And over their army was Naḥshon, son of Amminaḏaḇ.


And these were their names. From the tribe of Re’uḇĕn: Shammua, son of Zakkur.


“These are to stand on Mount Gerizim to bless the people, when you have passed over the Yardĕn: Shim‛on, and Lĕwi, and Yehuḏah, and Yissasḵar, and Yosĕph, and Binyamin.


Cursed is he who lies with his father’s wife, because he has uncovered his father’s bed.’ And all the people shall say, ‘Amĕn!’


“Out of Ephrayim their root is against Amalĕq. After you, Binyamin, with your peoples, out of Maḵir inscribers came down, and out of Zeḇulun those who handle the scribe’s reed.


And Ěli was very old, and had heard all that his sons were doing to all Yisra’ĕl, and how they lay with the women who were assembling at the door of the Tent of Appointment.


And Sovereign Dawiḏ heard all these reports, and he was very wroth.
