‘And you shall make a distinction between clean beasts and unclean, and between unclean birds and clean. And do not make yourselves abominable by beast or by bird, or whatever creeps on the ground, which I have separated from you as unclean.


Then I said, “Ah, Master יהוה! See, I have never defiled myself from my youth till now. I have never eaten what died of itself or was torn by beasts, nor has unclean meat ever come into my mouth.”


But Dani’ĕl laid it upon his heart that he would not defile himself with the portion of the sovereign’s food, nor with the wine which he drank. So he asked permission from the chief of the eunuchs not to defile himself.


And he said to them, “You know that a Yehuḏi man is not allowed to associate with, or go to one of another race. But Elohim has shown me that I should not call any man common or unclean.


And he said, “Who are You, Master?” And the Master said, “I am יהושע, whom you persecute. It is hard for you to kick against the prods.”


And his mother answering, said, “Not so, but he shall be called Yoḥanan.”


“But the wise answered, saying, ‘No, indeed, there would not be enough for us and you. Instead, go to those who sell, and buy for yourselves.’


And Kĕpha took Him aside and began to rebuke Him, saying, “Be kind to Yourself, Master, this shall not be to You!”


“The priests are not to eat any bird or beast found dead or torn to pieces.


Not so! You men go now, and serve יהוה, for that is what you desired. And they were driven out from the presence of Pharaoh.


And Lot said to them, “Oh no, יהוה!


And see, a leper came, and bowed before Him, saying, “Master, if You desire, You are able to make me clean.”


“Not that which goes into the mouth defiles the man, but that which comes out of the mouth, this defiles the man.


And seeing some of His taught ones eat bread with defiled, that is, with unwashed hands, they found fault.


The woman said to Him, “Master, You have no vessel, and the well is deep. From where, then, do You have living water?


And a voice came to him, “Rise up, Kĕpha, slay and eat.”


“And I answered, ‘Who are You, Master?’ And He said to me, ‘I am יהושע of Natsareth, whom you persecute.’
