However, יהוה would not destroy Yehuḏah, for the sake of Dawiḏ His servant, as He promised him to give a lamp to him and his sons forever.

But Aḇishai son of Tseruyah came to help him, and struck the Philistine and killed him. Then Dawiḏ’s men swore to him, saying, “Do not go out with us to battle any more, lest you put out the lamp of Yisra’ĕl.”

“But My loving-commitment does not turn aside from him, as I turned it aside from Sha’ul, whom I removed from before you.

“And your house and your reign are to be steadfast forever before you – your throne is established forever.” ’ ”

“Only, I do not do it in your days, for the sake of your father Dawiḏ. Out of the hand of your son I shall tear it.

“Only, I shall not tear away all the reign but give one tribe to your son for the sake of my servant Dawiḏ, and for the sake of Yerushalayim which I have chosen.”

And to his son I give one tribe, so that My servant Dawiḏ shall always have a lamp before Me in Yerushalayim, the city which I have chosen for Myself, to put My Name there.

But Yehosheḇa, the daughter of Sovereign Yoram, sister of Aḥazyahu, took Yo’ash son of Aḥazyah, and stole him away from among the sons of the sovereign’s sons who were put to death. So they hid him and his nurse in the bedroom, from Athalyahu, and he was not put to death.

And I shall defend this city, to save it for My own sake and for the sake of Dawiḏ My servant.’ ”

However, יהוה would not destroy the house of Dawiḏ, because of the covenant He had made with Dawiḏ, and since He had promised to give a lamp to him and to his sons, all the days.

For the sake of Your servant Dawiḏ, Do not turn away the face of Your Anointed One.

There I make the horn of Dawiḏ grow; I shall set up a lamp for My Anointed One.”

And I shall defend this city, to save it for My own sake and for the sake of My servant Dawiḏ.’ ”

“Therefore יהוה Himself gives you a sign: Look, the ‘almah’ conceives and gives birth to a son, and shall call His Name Immanu’ĕl.

“I shall not let the heat of My wrath burn, I shall not turn to destroy Ephrayim. For I am Ěl, and not man, the Set-apart One in your midst, and I shall not come in enmity.
