And Dawiḏ said to his men, “Each one gird on his sword.” So they each girded on his sword, and Dawiḏ also girded on his sword. And about four hundred men went with Dawiḏ, and two hundred remained with the baggage.

And all his servants were passing on at his side. And all the Kerĕthites, and all the Pelĕthites, and all the Gittites, six hundred men who had followed him from Gath, were passing on before the sovereign.

He who is patient has great understanding, But he who is short of spirit exalts folly.

He who is patient is better than the mighty, And he who rules over his spirit than he who takes a city.

A man’s discretion makes him patient, And his adorning is to pass over a transgression.

Also, desire without knowledge is not good; And he who hurries with his feet sins.

Do not say, “I repay evil.” Wait for יהוה, and He saves you.

Do not go forth to strive in haste, For what would you do in the end, When your neighbour has put you to shame?

And the men of Yisra’ĕl took some of their food, but they did not ask the mouth of יהוה.

And everyone who was in distress, everyone who was in debt, and everyone bitter in being gathered to him. So he became head over them, and there were about four hundred men with him.

Then Dawiḏ and his men, about six hundred, arose and left Qe‛ilah and went wherever they could go. And Sha’ul was informed that Dawiḏ had escaped from Qe‛ilah, and he ceased to go out.

And the young men of Dawiḏ turned around on their way and went back, and came and reported to him all these words.

So Dawiḏ rose up and passed over with the six hundred men who were with him to Aḵish son of Ma‛oḵ, sovereign of Gath.
