Children, listen to the discipline of a father, And give attention to know understanding;
“Gather together and hear, you sons of Yaʽ
Come, you children, listen to me; Let me teach you the fear of יהוה.
For knowing wisdom and discipline, For understanding the words of understanding,
My son, heed the discipline of your father, And do not forsake the Torah of your mother;
A wise son accepts his father’s discipline, But a scoffer shall not listen to rebuke.
Listen to counsel and accept discipline, So that you are wise in your latter end.
Incline your ear and hear the words of the wise, And apply your heart to my knowledge;
My son, listen to my wisdom; Incline your ear to my understanding,
Say to wisdom, “You are my sister,” And call understanding a close friend,
“So we obeyed the voice of Yonaḏ
Because of this we have to pay more attention to what we have heard, lest we drift away.
