rulers held back their words, and laid a hand on their mouth;
Look at me and be appalled, then put your hand on your mouth.
To me they listened, and they waited, and kept silence at my counsel.
the young men saw me and hid, and the aged rose up, they stood;
“If one tries a word with you, would you become impatient? But who is able to withhold himself from speaking?
“See, I am insignificant, what would I answer You? I lay my hand over my mouth.
I also, I do not hold my mouth, I speak in the distress of my spirit, I complain in the bitterness of my being.
When words are many, Transgression is not absent, But he who restrains his lips is wise.
If you have been foolish in lifting up yourself, Or if you have plotted evil, Put your hand on your mouth.
So then, my beloved brothers, let every man be swift to hear, slow to speak, slow to wrath,
And they said to him, “Be silent, put your hand over your mouth, and come with us, and be a father and a priest to us. Is it better for you to be a priest to the household of one man, or that you be a priest to a tribe and a clan in Yisra’ĕ
