The guests in my house, and my female servants, reckon me for a stranger – I am a foreigner in their eyes.

All my intimate friends loathe me, and those whom I love have turned against me.

And all his brothers, and all his sisters, and all those who had been his friends before, came to him and ate food with him in his house. And they sympathised with him and comforted him for all the evil that יהוה  had brought upon him. And they each gave him a piece of silver and each one a ring of gold.

I have been forgotten like someone dead from the heart; I have been like a missing vessel.

My loved ones and my friends stand back from my plague, And my neighbours stand far away.

A man of many friends might come to ruin, But there is a Loving One Who sticks closer than a brother!

For I heard many mocking, “Fear on every side!” “Expose,” they say, “yea, let us expose him!” All my friends watched for my stumbling, saying, “He might be lured away, so that we prevail against him, and take our revenge on him.”

She weeps bitterly at night, And her tears are upon her cheeks. Among all her lovers there is no comforter for her. All her friends have betrayed her, They have become her enemies.

“And brother shall deliver up brother to death, and a father his child. And children shall rise up against parents and shall put them to death.

“I do not speak concerning all of you. I know whom I have chosen, but that the Scripture might be filled, ‘He who eats bread with Me has lifted up his heel against Me.’
