The joy of the tambourine shall cease, the noise of those who rejoice shall end, the joy of the lyre shall cease.

“And I shall cause all her rejoicing, her festivals, her New Moons, and her Sabbaths, even all her appointed times, to cease,

“And the sound of harpists, and musicians, and flutists, and trumpeters shall not be heard in you any more at all. And no craftsman of any trade shall be found in you any more at all. And the sound of a millstone shall not be heard in you any more at all.

‘And I shall cause the sound of your songs to cease, and let the sound of your lyres be heard no more.

“And in the cities of Yehuḏ

‘And I shall banish from them the voice of rejoicing and the voice of gladness, the voice of the bridegroom and the voice of the bride, the sound of the millstones and the light of the lamp.

For thus said יהוה  of hosts, the Elohim of Yisra’ĕ

And the lyre and the harp, the tambourine and flute, and wine are in their feasts; but they do not regard the deeds of יהוה, nor see the work of His hands.

So my lyre becomes mourning, and my flute the sound of weeping.

We hung our lyres Upon the willows in the midst of it.

Therefore the grave has made itself wide and opened its mouth beyond measure. Their splendour and their crowd and their uproar, and he who is exulting within her, shall go down into it.

Gladness is taken away, and joy from the orchard; in the vineyards there is no singing, nor shouting; No treaders tread out wine in their presses; I have made their acclamation cease.

Elders have ceased from the gate, Young men from their song.

Look, let that night be silent! Let no singing come into it!

Therefore they shall now go into exile, with the first of the exiles, and the feasting of the stretched-out ones shall cease!
