The Scriptures 1998

You, whose eyes are too clean to see evil, You are not able to look on wrong. Why do You look on those who act treacherously – keep silent when the wrong devours one more righteous than he?

Break the arm of the wrong one and the evil one; search out his wrongness that would not be found out.

With the clean You show Yourself clean; And with the crooked You show Yourself twisted.

Indeed, let no one who waits on You be ashamed; Let those who are treacherous without cause be ashamed.

יהוה, how long would You look on? Rescue my being from their destructions, My only life from the lions.

This You have seen, O יהוה ; Do not be silent. O יהוה, do not be far from me.

Let them not say in their hearts, “Aha, our desire!” Let them not say, “We have swallowed him up.”

“You have done this, and I kept silent; You have thought that I was altogether like you – I rebuke you, and set it in order before your eyes.

Our Elohim comes, and is not silent – A fire consumes before Him, And it shall be very stormy all around Him.

For I was envious of the boasters, When I saw the peace of the wrong-doers.

O Elohim, do not remain silent! Do not be speechless, And do not be still, O Ě

A distressing vision is revealed to me: the treacherous betrays, and the ravager ravages. Go up, O Ě

From the ends of the earth we shall hear songs, “Splendour to the Righteous One!” But I say, “I waste away, I waste away! Woe to me! The treacherous betray, with treachery the treacherous betray.”

Woe to you ravager, while you have not been ravaged, and you treacherous, while they have not betrayed you! When you have ceased ravaging, you shall be ravaged. And when you stop betraying, they shall betray you.

In view of all this, would You restrain Yourself, O יהוה ? Would You keep silent and afflict us beyond measure?

Or wrong a man in his cause – This יהוה  does not approve.

And would You make men like fish of the sea, like creeping creatures that have no ruler over them?

‘And do not plot evil in your heart against another, and do not love a false oath. For all these I hate,’ declares יהוה.”

this One, given up by the set purpose and foreknowledge of Elohim, you have impaled and put to death through the hands of lawless men –

“You do not hand over to his master the slave who has escaped from his master to you.
