Genesis 37:35

The Scriptures 1998

And all his sons and all his daughters arose to comfort him, but he refused to be comforted, and he said, “Now let me go down into the grave to my son in mourning.” So his father wept for him.

“But we said to him, ‘We are trustworthy, we are not spies.

But he said, “My son is not going down with you, for his brother is dead, and he is left alone. If any harm should come to him along the way in which you go, then you would bring down my grey hair with sorrow to the grave.”

So the elders of his house stood up over him, to raise him up from the earth. But he would not, nor did he eat food with them.

“But now he is dead, why should I fast? Am I able to bring him back again? I am going to him, but he does not return to me.”

And Ephrayim their father mourned many days, and his brothers came to comfort him.
