The Scriptures 1998

Therefore the people strove with Mosheh, and said, “Give us water to drink.” And Mosheh said to them, “Why do you strive with me? Why do you try יהוה ?”

But greedily lusted in the wilderness, And tried Ě

And again and again they tried Ě

Yet they tried and rebelled Against the Most High Elohim, And did not guard His witnesses,

“Do not harden your hearts as in Meriḇ

“When your fathers tried Me, Have proved Me, though they saw My work.

And the people grumbled against Mosheh, saying, “What are we to drink?”

And Mosheh said, “In that יהוה  gives you meat to eat in the evening, and in the morning bread to satisfaction, for יהוה  hears your grumblings which you make against Him. And what are we? Your grumblings are not against us but against יהוה.”

And he called the name of the place Massah and Meriḇ

And they said to them, “Let יהוה  look on you and judge, because you have made us loathsome in the eyes of Pharaoh and in the eyes of his servants, to give a sword in their hand to kill us.”

‘And now we are calling the proud blessed – not only are the doers of wrongness built up, but they also try Elohim and escape.’ ”

And all the children of Yisra’ĕ

for none of these men who have seen My esteem and the signs which I did in Mitsrayim and in the wilderness, and have tried Me now these ten times, and have disobeyed My voice,

And the people spoke against Elohim and against Mosheh, “Why have you brought us up out of Mitsrayim to die in the wilderness? For there is no food and no water, and our being loathes this light bread.”

יהושע  said to him, “It has also been written, ‘You shall not try יהוה  your Elohim.’ ”

and the younger of them said to his father, ‘Father, give me the portion of goods falling to me.’ And he divided his livelihood between them.

And יהושע  answering, said to him, “It has been said, ‘You shall not try יהוה  your Elohim.’ ”

“Now then, why do you try Elohim by putting a yoke on the neck of the taught ones which neither our fathers nor we were able to bear?

neither let us try Messiah, as some of them also tried, and were destroyed by serpents,

“Do not try יהוה  your Elohim as you tried Him in Massah.

where your fathers tried Me, proved Me, and saw My works forty years.

But the word was evil in the eyes of Shemu’ĕ
