Ruth 4:11

The Passion Translation

Then all the elders and all the people who were at the gate said: “We are witnesses. May Yahweh make the woman who is coming into your house like Rachel and Leah, both of whom built up the house of Israel. May you become famous in Bethlehem! May you become very prosperous!

Leah conceived, gave birth to a son, and named him Reuben, saying, “Because Yahweh looked upon me with compassion in my misery, surely, my husband will love me now!”

And you, little Bethlehem, are not insignificant among the clans of Judah, for out of you will emerge the Shepherd-King of my people Israel!”

First we heard that the ark was at Bethlehem. Then we found it in the forest of Kiriath-Jearim.

As she departed, they blessed her with these words: “Our dear sister, may you become thousands of ten thousands! May your descendants gain possession of the city gates of their foes!”

Every wise woman encourages and builds up her family, but a foolish woman over time will tear it down by her own actions.

Now Ephron the Hittite was sitting there among his countrymen. He spoke up so all the Hittites who sat at the gate as elders of the city could hear him, and said,

When Jacob woke up the next morning, he was shocked to find Leah lying next to him! So he confronted Laban and said, “What have you done to me? Didn’t I serve you these seven years for Rachel? Why have you tricked me?”

Her husband is famous and admired by all, sitting as the venerable judge of his people.

(Now, Laban had two daughters; the older was Leah, and the younger was Rachel.

Leah’s sons were Reuben (Jacob’s firstborn), Simeon, Levi, Judah, Issachar, and Zebulun.

Rachel’s sons were Joseph and Benjamin.

I signed the deed and sealed it, called in witnesses, and weighed out the silver on the scales.
