Blow them away, God, like straw in the wind, like a tumbleweed in the wilderness!

God, my God! Why would you abandon me now?

Blow them away like dust in the wind, with the angel of Almighty God driving them back!

You are my God, my King! It’s now time to decree majesties for Jacob!

They barely get planted and barely take root in their position of power when the Lord blows on them and they wither away, carried off like straw in the stormy wind.

Who raised up the conqueror from the east? Who commissioned him for his righteous purpose? The Lord hands nations over to him to trample kings under his feet, to make them like dust with his sword and like windblown chaff with his bow.

“This is why I will scatter you like dust driven by the desert wind.

“ ‘You said: “Let’s take possession of these two countries, Judah and Israel. They are ours for the taking,” even though the land belongs to me, Yahweh.

Lord Yahweh says to you: Your enemies have gloated over you by saying: “At last! Now we own these ancient high places!” ’

He comes with a winnowing fork in his hands and comes to his threshing floor to sift what is worthless from what is pure. And he is ready to sweep out his threshing floor and gather his wheat into his granary, but the straw he will burn up with a fire that can’t be extinguished!”
