So I lifted my grace from off of their lives, and I surrendered them to the stubbornness of their hearts. For they were living according to their own selfish fantasies.

Yahweh said, “My Spirit will not strive with humanity indefinitely, for they are mortal. Their life span will be shortened to only one hundred and twenty years.”

This is what Yahweh says: “Woe to the rebellious children, who carry out their own plans but not mine, and who sign treaties without consulting my Spirit, piling one sin upon another.

For they are stubborn rebels, children always telling lies, who refuse to listen to Yahweh’s instruction.

Who gave up Jacob to looters and Israel to robbers? It was Yahweh himself, against whom we sinned by not walking in holy ways nor heeding holy words.

Today I have told you exactly what he said, but you have not obeyed the voice of Yahweh your God in anything he sent me to tell you.

But they did not listen or obey. They followed their own stubborn plans of their evil hearts. They disrespected me and went backward, not forward.

But they rebelled against me and refused to listen to me. Not one of them rejected the detestable things their eyes feasted on, nor did they give up the idols of Egypt. So in my anger, I decided to pour out my wrath on them and vent my anger against them in the midst of Egypt.’

In previous generations he allowed the nations to pursue their own ways,

“When God saw what they had done, he turned away from them and handed them over to the worship of the stars of heaven, as recorded in the prophetic writings: ‘People of Israel, you failed to worship me when you offered animal sacrifices for forty years in the wilderness.

This is why God lifted off his restraining hand and let them have full expression of their sinful and shameful desires. They were given over to moral depravity, dishonoring their bodies by sexual perversion among themselves—
