So I speak over my heartbroken soul, “Take courage. Remember when you used to be right out front leading the procession of praise when the great crowd of worshipers gathered to go into the presence of the Lord? You shouted with joy as the sound of passionate celebration filled the air and the joyous multitude of lovers honored the feast of the Lord!”

Now the nearby nations heap their scorn upon us, scoffing, mocking us incessantly.

Now it’s time to make a deal with my master, the king of Assyria. I will give you two thousand horses if you’re able to come up with as many men to ride them.

Whom do you think you’re mocking and blaspheming? Against whom do you raise your voice? And whom have you looked down upon in your arrogance? None other than me, the Holy One of Israel!

My mother, how terrible that you ever bore me— a man doomed to conflict and strife with everyone against me! I have never cheated anyone, yet everyone curses me.

And they will say, ‘Didn’t you make fun of Israel in the past? Didn’t you say Israel was nothing but crooks? Whenever you spoke of her, didn’t you shake your head in disgust?’

Therefore, hear the word of Lord Yahweh, you Mountains of Israel! Lord Yahweh has a message for the mountains and hills, the ravines and valleys, the devastated ruins and abandoned cities that have been ransacked by your enemies and ridiculed by all the nations around you.

The entire world will gloat over them and celebrate and exchange gifts, because these two prophets had condemned those who dwell on the earth.

By now, the people were getting drunk and demanded, “Bring out Samson and let him dance for us!” So he was brought from the prison to amuse them, and they displayed him between the main pillars that supported their temple.
