Turn your steps toward this devastation. Come running to bring your restoring grace to these ruins, to what the enemy has done to devastate your Holy Place.

So wake up, Lord God! Why would you sleep when we’re in trouble? Are you forsaking us forever?

Arise, awake, and come to help us, O Lord. Let your unfailing love save us from this sorrow!

God, won’t you do something? Barbarians have invaded your inheritance. Your temple of holiness has been violated, and Jerusalem has been left in ruins.

I am the one who has sent him against a godless nation and ordered him to attack a people who anger me. I sent him to take the spoil and seize the plunder and to trample them down like dust in the street.

The mighty, gracious hand of the Lord Yahweh will rest upon this mountain, but the Moabites will be trampled under his feet as straw gets trampled into the manure.

They will restore ruins from long ago and rebuild what was long devastated. They will renew ruined cities and desolations of past generations.

He burned down the temple of Yahweh, the royal palace, and all the homes of the wealthy of Jerusalem, and other buildings went up in flames.

The enemy has seized all her precious treasures. Before her very eyes she witnessed foreigners enter her holy sanctuary, although you had forbidden them ever to enter your assembly.

“He will then dispatch his armed forces to enter and profane the sacred temple-stronghold. They will abolish the daily sacrifice and, in its place, set the blasphemous abomination that brings desolation.

And now, our God, I am your servant and I beg you, please—answer my prayers. Make your face to shine upon your ruined temple so that everyone will know that you are Lord.

“For one week he will confirm a covenant with many people, but in the middle of that week, he will abolish sacrifices and offerings. “On the wing of the temple, an appalling abomination will be erected. And the abomination will remain there until God does away with the one who placed it there, just as God has determined.”

Then he began to teach the people, saying, “Does not the Scripture say, ‘My house will be a house of prayer for all the world to share’? But you have made it a hangout of thieves!”

Many will be cut down by the sword or scattered as prisoners to many countries. And Jerusalem shall be trampled down by nations until the days of world empires come to an end.”

Joshua summoned all of Israel and ordered his army officers, “Place your feet on the necks of these kings.” So they placed their feet upon their necks!

But exclude the courtyard outside the temple, for it has been given over to the nations, and for forty-two months they will trample on the holy city.
