Yahweh, don’t condemn me. Don’t punish me in your fiery anger.

Yes, the Lord punished me as I deserved, but he’ll never give me over to death.

Help, Lord! Save us! For godly ones are disappearing. Where are the dependable, principled ones? They’re a vanishing breed!

Then with the fierceness of his fiery anger, he settles the issue and terrifies them to death with these words:

O Lord, don’t punish me angrily for what I’ve done. Don’t let my sin inflame your wrath against me.

God, you are my righteousness, my Champion Defender. Answer me when I cry for help! Whenever I was in distress, you enlarged me. I’m being squeezed again—I need your kindness right away! Grant me your grace, hear my prayer, and set me free!

“To me, this is like the time when I vowed that the waters of Noah’s flood would never again cover the earth. Now I vow to you that I will neither be angry with you nor rebuke you.

You will not find me continually accusing them or holding anger against them, lest they feel defeated and lose heart before me. For I am the One who gave the breath of life to my people.

Correct us, Yahweh, according to what is right, but go easy on us— don’t correct us in your anger, or there would be nothing left of us.

Yahweh declares to you, “My servant Jacob, Do not be afraid, for I am with you and will save you. Someday, I will bring destruction to all the nations where I have driven you, but I will not destroy you. Let me assure you, I will discipline you but in moderation. I will not allow you to go entirely unpunished.”
