The oppressed get justice with you. The hungry are satisfied with you. Prisoners find their freedom with you.

The orphans and the oppressed will be terrified no longer, for you will bring them justice, and no earth-dweller will trouble them again.

You’re a God who makes things right, giving justice to the defenseless.

But the Lord says, “Now I will arise! I will defend the poor, those who were plundered, the oppressed, and the needy who groan for help. I will spring into action to rescue and protect them!”

He provides food for hungry men and animals! His tender love for us continues on forever!

Bring me out of this dungeon so I can declare your praise! And all the righteous will celebrate all the wonderful things you’ve done for me!

Everything inside of me will shout it out: “There’s no one like you, Lord!” For look at how you protect the weak and helpless from the strong and heartless who oppress them.

O Lord, it was you who marched in front of your people, leading them through the wasteland. Pause in his presence

May the poor and humble have an advocate with the king. May he consider the children of the poor and crush the cruel oppressor.

Yahweh is famous for his justice. While the wicked are digging a pit for others, they are actually setting the terms for their own judgment. They will fall into their own pit. Consider the truth of this and pause in his presence

The mighty Spirit of Lord Yahweh is wrapped around me because Yahweh has anointed me, as a messenger to preach good news to the poor. He sent me to heal the wounds of the brokenhearted, to tell captives, “You are free,” and to tell prisoners, “Be free from your darkness.”

For you have broken the chains that have bound your people and lifted off the heavy bar across their shoulders, the rod the oppressor used against them. You have shattered all their bondage, just as you did when Midian’s armies were defeated.

Yahweh says, “I will refresh the desire of my priests with abundance and lavish gifts on my people until they are more than satisfied.”

Those who hunger for him will always be filled, but the smug and self-satisfied he will send away empty.

“The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, and he has anointed me to be hope for the poor, healing for the brokenhearted, and new eyes for the blind, and to preach to prisoners, ‘You are set free!’ I have come to share the message of Jubilee, for the time of God’s great acceptance has begun.”

So everyone ate until they were filled, and afterward the disciples gathered up the leftovers—it came to exactly twelve baskets full!

Suddenly, a great earthquake shook the foundations of the prison. All at once every prison door flung open and the chains of all the prisoners came loose.

But during the night, the Lord sent an angel who appeared before them. He supernaturally opened their prison doors and brought the apostles outside.
