You will destroy every proud liar who says, “We lie all we want. Our words are our weapons, and we won’t be held accountable. Who can stop us?” May Yahweh cut off their twisted tongues and seal their lying lips. May they all be silenced—those who boast and brag with their high-minded talk.

For I know, Lord, that you will be the hero of all those they persecute, and you will secure justice for the poor.

They are pitiless, heartless—hard as nails, swollen with pride and filled with arrogance!

So here’s what I’ve learned through it all: Leave all your cares and anxieties at the feet of the Lord, and measureless grace will strengthen you.

Your words are so powerful that they will kill or give life, and the talkative person will reap the consequences.

Kind words can be a cover to conceal hatred of others, for hypocrisy loves to hide behind flattery.

Since I was able to seize kingdoms full of idols and images more powerful and more impressive than those of Jerusalem and Samaria,

No one seeks true justice; no one pleads his case with honesty. They rely on their illusions and misleading lies; they conceive trouble and give birth to sin.

For even your brothers and relatives have betrayed you, and are in full pursuit of you. Don’t believe them when they speak to you as friends.”

Their words are deadly arrows poisoned with deceit. Each one greets his neighbor with ‘Shalom,’ but deep in his heart, he secretly sets a trap for him.

“Son of man, say to the prince of Tyre, ‘Lord Yahweh says to you: “ ‘Because your heart is swollen with pride, you have said, “I am a god. I sit in the seat of a god, enthroned in the heart of the sea.” You think you are as wise as a god, but you’re nothing but a man, not a god at all!

Will you still say in the presence of your killers, “Don’t you know I’m a god?” But you will be merely a mortal man, and not a god, when you are in the clutches of the ones who strike you down!

Tell them what I, Lord Yahweh, say: “ ‘Behold, I am against you, Pharaoh king of Egypt— the great monster wallowing in its waterways. You boasted: “I made the Nile River for myself, and I own it!”

He will speak blasphemous words against the Most High and try to wear down the holy ones of the Most High. He will try to alter the set periods of time and change God’s decree, and the saints will be subjected to his power for a time, times, and half a time.

As I was wondering about the horns, suddenly, another little horn sprouted up among them and tore out by the roots three of the previous horns to make room for it. On this little horn there were eyes like that of a man and a mouth boasting arrogantly.

They spout off with their grandiose, impressive nonsense. Consumed with the lusts of the flesh, they lure back into sin those who recently escaped from their error.

These people are always complaining and never satisfied—finding fault with everyone. They follow their own evil desires and their mouths speak scandalous things. They enjoy using seductive flattery to manipulate others.

The wild beast was given a mouth to speak boastful and blasphemous words, and he was permitted to exercise authority for forty-two months.
