Stubborn people who repeatedly refuse to accept correction will suddenly be broken and never recover.

Overjoyed is the one who with tender heart trembles before God, but the stubborn, unyielding heart will experience even greater evil.

The pure will be rescued from failure, but the perverse will suddenly fall into ruin.

When wicked leaders rise to power, good people go into hiding. But when they fall from power, the godly take their place.

But when calamity comes knocking on their door, suddenly and without warning they’re undone— broken to bits, shattered, with no hope of healing.

So do not mock, or your bonds will grow tighter. For I have heard the decree from my Lord Yahweh, Commander of Angel Armies. He spoke a decree of destruction against the whole land.

I knew you were stubborn. Your neck is like a rod of iron, and you’re as hard-hearted as brass!

Lord, have you completely rejected Judah? Does your soul really despise Zion? Why have you crushed us so that we can’t be healed? We longed for peace and happiness, but nothing good ever came. We longed for a time of healing, and we find a time of terror instead.

(Yet they would not listen or obey; they stubbornly refused and would not obey or accept instruction.)

I will punish all of you, your descendants, and your officials for all your blatant sins. You and the people of Judah and Jerusalem have not stopped to pay attention to any of my warnings. Therefore, I will pour out on all of you every disaster that I have pronounced against you.”

“I don’t refer to all of you when I tell you these things, for I know the ones I’ve chosen—to fulfill the Scripture that says, ‘The one who shared supper with me treacherously betrays me.’

“The one I give this piece of bread to after I’ve dipped it in the bowl,” Jesus replied. Then he dipped the piece of bread into the bowl and handed it to Judas Iscariot, the son of Simon.

He earned the wages of his sin, for he fell headfirst, and his belly split open, spilling his intestines on the ground.

to be an apostle and take Judas’ place because he renounced his apostleship to go where he belonged.”

For while some are saying, “Finally we have peace and security,” sudden destruction will arrive at their doorstep, like labor pains seizing a pregnant woman—and with no chance of escape!
