Once again Jesus said to him, “The Scriptures say: You must never put the Lord your God to a test.”

but demanded you satisfy their cravings and give them food! They tested you to the breaking point.

In their hearts they tested God just to get what they wanted, asking for the food their hearts craved.

Again and again they limited God, preventing him from blessing them. Continually they turned back from him and provoked the Holy One of Israel!

Yet for all of this, they still rebelled and refused to follow his ways, provoking to anger the God Most High.

You are to answer them: “Listen to the teaching and instruction of the Lord! If their speech does not line up with his word, they will have no light of dawn!

They said to Jesus, “Don’t you hear what these children are saying? This is not right!” Jesus answered, “Yes, I hear them. But have you never read the Scripture, ‘From the lips of children and infants you have ordained praise’?”

Jesus said to them, “Haven’t you ever read the Scripture that says: The very stone the builder rejected as flawed has now become the most important cornerstone. This was the Lord’s plan — isn’t it marvelous to behold?

But Jesus said, “Go away, Satan! For the Scriptures say: Kneel before the Lord your God and worship only him.”

He answered, “The Scriptures say: Bread alone will not satisfy, but true life is found in every word that constantly goes forth from God’s mouth.”

Jesus replied, “It is also written in the Scriptures, ‘How dare you provoke the Lord your God!’ ”

So why on earth would you now limit God’s grace by placing a yoke of religious duties on the shoulders of the believers that neither we nor our ancestors have been able to bear?

Peter told her, “Why have you agreed together to test the Spirit of the Lord? I hear the footsteps of those who buried your husband at the door—they’re coming here to bury you too!”

Nor should we ever provoke the Lord, as some of them did by putting him to outrageous tests that resulted in their death from snakebites day after day.

There your fathers tested me and tried my patience even though they saw my miracles for forty years they still doubted me!
