I will break open mysteries with my music, and my song will release riddles solved.

A parable and a proverb are hidden in what I say— an intriguing riddle from the past.

“Son of man, propose this riddle to Israel, and speak this parable to the people.

But I protested and said, “But Lord Yahweh, everyone is already complaining that I only speak in riddles.”

As he cast his seeds, some fell along the beaten path and the birds came and ate them.

Right after Jesus taught this series of parables, he left from there.

As was his custom, Jesus continued to teach the people by using allegories.

“Now learn the lesson from the parable of the fig tree. When spring arrives and it sends out its tender branches and sprouts leaves, you know that summer is near.

Then Jesus began to speak to them in parables: “There once was a man who planted a vineyard and put a secure fence around it. He dug a pit for its winepress and erected a watch tower. Then he leased it to tenant-farmers and traveled abroad.

Now, the chief priests, religious scholars, and leaders realized that Jesus’ parable was aimed at them. They had hoped to arrest him then and there, but they feared the reaction of the crowd, so they left him alone and went away.

Jesus called them to himself and spoke to them using parables. “How can Satan cast out Satan?

Then he said to them, “If you don’t understand this parable, how will you understand any parable?

Jesus used many parables such as these as he taught the people, and they learned according to their ability to understand.

“Lord,” Peter asked, “does this apply only to the twelve of us, or is it for everyone else as well?”

He said, “You have been given a teachable heart to perceive the secret, hidden mysteries of God’s kingdom realm. But to those without a listening heart, my words are merely stories. Even though they have eyes, they are blind to the true meaning of what I say, and even though they listen, they won’t receive full revelation.

“I have spoken to you using figurative language, but the time is coming when I will no longer teach you with veiled speech, but I will teach you about the Father with your eyes unveiled.
