The chief priests and the Jewish council of leaders were doing their best to find false charges that they could bring against Jesus and condemn him to death, but they could not find any.

Don’t let them defeat me, Lord. You can’t let me fall into their clutches! They keep accusing me of things I’ve never done, breathing out violence against me.

They are malicious men, hostile witnesses of wrong. They rise up against me, accusers appearing out of nowhere.

For that reason, the chief officials and the governors were stirred to seek some pretext against Daniel regarding his governmental affairs. But because he was trustworthy, no one could find any error or fault in him nor could they uncover any negligence or misconduct.

But I’m telling you, if you hold anger in your heart toward a fellow believer, you are subject to judgment. And whoever demeans and insults a fellow believer is answerable to the congregation. And whoever calls down curses upon a fellow believer is in danger of being sent to a fiery hell.

Many false witnesses came forward, but the evidence could not be corroborated.

The high priest interrogated Jesus concerning his disciples and his teachings.

Why would you ask me for evidence to condemn me? Ask those who have heard what I’ve taught. They can tell you.”
