I’m so thirsty and parched. My tongue sticks to the roof of my mouth. And now you lay me in the dust of death.

Therefore, my people go into exile for lack of understanding. Their leaders are starving, their multitudes parched with thirst.

The elite send their servants for water, but when they come to the cisterns, they are bone dry. So, they return with their vessels empty. Humiliated, they cover their faces with shame.

Everyone is groaning, longing for anything to eat; they have traded their treasures for food in order to keep themselves alive. “Look, Yahweh, and consider how pathetic I have become!

‘We wipe from our feet the very dust of your streets as a testimony before you! Understand this: God’s kingdom came within your reach and yet you have rejected God’s invitation!’ ”
