The Passion Translation

The Lord has rejected his own altar and disowned his sanctuary. He has given the walls of her fortresses to her enemies. When the enemy toppled Yahweh’s temple, they shouted for joy like it was a festival day.

You have torn up the contract you made with me, your servant. You have stripped away my crown and thrown it to the ground.

Yahweh, don’t be angry with us! Don’t remember our sins again forever! Please look at us; we are your people.

‘Here is what Yahweh, the God of Israel says to King Zedekiah: Behold! I am going to take the weapons your troops are using to fight the Babylonians who are outside the city, and I will gather them together there.

“In the days of Hezekiah king of Judah, the prophet Micah of Moresheth prophesied to all the people of Judah, ‘Yahweh, Commander of Angel Armies, declares: “ ‘Zion will be plowed under like a field, Jerusalem will become a heap of rubble, and the Temple Mount will be covered with overgrowth.’

then I will make this temple into a pile of ruins just like I did to Shiloh. This city will become a worldwide object of cursing.’ ”

The attacking army of Babylon will seize this city, set it on fire, and burn it to the ground. The people offered sacrifices to Baal on those same rooftops and poured out drink offerings to other idols, provoking my anger.

Meanwhile in Jerusalem, the Babylonians demolished the city walls, and burned down the temple of Yahweh and the king’s royal palace.

I looked at the once fruitful land, now nothing but a desert, all its cities left in ruins before Yahweh’s burning anger.

“For I, Yahweh, have spoken: ‘The whole land will remain desolate; however, the end of the world is not yet.

Listen! Fugitives and refugees from the country of Babylon arrive in Zion, proclaiming on Mount Zion how Yahweh our God has punished the Babylonians for destroying his temple!”

He burned down the temple of Yahweh, the royal palace, and all the homes of the wealthy of Jerusalem, and other buildings went up in flames.

The empty roads to Zion mourn, for no one travels to her sacred feasts anymore. The singing maidens suffer, and the priests can only groan. The city gates stand empty, and Zion can only moan.

The Lord was so angry that he shrouded the daughter of Zion with shame. He hurled down to the ground the splendor of Israel. He disregarded his footstool on the day of his anger.

The Lord became our enemy; he destroyed Israel. He devastated all her palaces and ruined her strongholds. He has multiplied weeping and wailing for Daughter Judah.

to prophesy to the people of Israel the words of Lord Yahweh: ‘Behold! I am about to make my sanctuary ritually unclean. My temple has become your boast, the pride of your strength, the delight of your eyes, the joy of your hearts, and you believe it will keep you safe. But your children whom you left behind in Jerusalem will be killed by the sword.

so I will bring evil nations here to seize their homes. I will put an end to the pride of their elite, and their sanctuary will be profaned.

And Jesus turned to them and said, “Take a good look at all these things, for I’m telling you, there will not be one stone left upon another. It will all be leveled!”
