The Passion Translation

The Lord was so angry that he shrouded the daughter of Zion with shame. He hurled down to the ground the splendor of Israel. He disregarded his footstool on the day of his anger.

Let’s go into God’s dwelling place and bow down and worship before him.

Because of you, I’ve become old before my time, and I’m publicly disgraced! Pause in his presence

So everyone, exalt the Lord our God facedown before his glory-throne, for he is great and holy.

Our holy temple, our source of pride, where our ancestors sang your praise, has been consumed by fire. All that we held dear has been destroyed.

All those ‘lovers’ you had have abandoned you; they could not care less. Yes, I struck you with cruel punishment because of your great guilt and countless sins. I struck you mercilessly like you were my enemy.

How lonely sits the city once thronged with people! Once great among the nations, she is now lonely like a widow. Once a fair princess ruling among the provinces, now a shackled servant.

“None who passes by even cares. Turn around and look at me! Is there anyone who suffers as much as I? Yahweh, in the terrible day of your fierce anger, you punished me worst of all.

Yahweh has done everything he planned and has carried out his word. As he ordained long ago, he has destroyed without pity. He increased the power of your foes and caused your enemies to rejoice over you.

How the gold has lost its luster! How the pure gold has lost its value! The sacred stones lie scattered at the corner of every street.

At the peak of Yahweh’s wrath, he vented his fierce anger! He lit a fire in Zion and burned it down to the ground.

“ ‘Therefore this is what I, Lord Yahweh, say to you: My anger will break forth as a windstorm and my wrath will break loose like a torrential rain, and I will send great hailstones to destroy your wall!

But disaster struck the vine. Angry, mighty hands pulled it up by its roots and threw it to the ground. The hot east wind dried it up, and her fruit shriveled and fell to the ground. Her strong stem was withered and was consumed by the fire.

to prophesy to the people of Israel the words of Lord Yahweh: ‘Behold! I am about to make my sanctuary ritually unclean. And Capernaum—do you really think you’ll be exalted because of the great miracles I have done there? No! You’ll be brought down to the depths of hell because of your rejection of me. For if the miracles I worked in your streets were done in Sodom, it would still be standing today!

And Capernaum! Do you really think you’ll be highly exalted because of the great things I have done there? No! You’ll be brought down to the depths of hell because of your rejection of me!”

Jesus replied, “While you were ministering, I watched Satan topple until he fell suddenly from heaven like lightning to the ground.
