“None who passes by even cares. Turn around and look at me! Is there anyone who suffers as much as I? Yahweh, in the terrible day of your fierce anger, you punished me worst of all.

I’m overwhelmed by your burning anger. I’ve taken the worst you could give me, and I’m speechless before you.

Therefore, I will make the heavens shudder and the earth shake from its foundation because of the wrath of the Lord, Commander of Angel Armies, in the day of his fierce anger.

Woe is me —my brokenness! My wound is incurable. I once said: “Oh, I must bear this suffering,” and I assumed I could endure it.

Their homeland is a wasteland, and everyone who passes by is horrified and trembles with fear.

Behold, Yahweh’s anger is like the fury of a fearsome whirlwind about to hit the wicked head-on with gale-force winds.

Yahweh’s anger will not relent until he has perfectly carried out what he has in mind. In the latter days, you will clearly understand this.

A disaster! A terrible day like no other. It will be great tribulation for Jacob, yet he will be saved out of it.

Therefore, put on sackcloth, lament, and wail, for the burning anger of Yahweh has not turned away from us.

And they will say, ‘Didn’t you make fun of Israel in the past? Didn’t you say Israel was nothing but crooks? Whenever you spoke of her, didn’t you shake your head in disgust?’

“Yahweh is just to judge, for I have rebelled against his word. Listen, everyone, and see my sorrow; my maidens and young men have gone into captivity.

The Lord was so angry that he shrouded the daughter of Zion with shame. He hurled down to the ground the splendor of Israel. He disregarded his footstool on the day of his anger.

With what can I compare you? What can I say to you, beloved Jerusalem? To what can I liken you, in order to comfort you, fair Zion? For your wound is as deep as the sea. Who can heal you?

You have fulfilled the words that you spoke against us and against the rulers over us by bringing upon us such a great calamity. Your severe punishment of Jerusalem has never been equaled under all heaven!

For this will be a time of great misery beyond the magnitude of anything the world has ever seen or ever will see. Unless God limited those days, no one would escape.
